What happens on a typical week

On an Academy course you will work on a full program to guarantee the change in your skiing. As well as receiving individual attention and a full summary of your week, you can expect to cover the following in depth and essential subjects:

1. EQUIPMENT CHECK

A full equipment check will be carried out to make sure your skis, boots and bindings are set up to give you a 100% safe and effective ride. You will also gain a better understanding of your kit

2. SKI PHYSIOLOGY

Before skiing each day you will complete an aerobic warm up routine. After skiing each day your coach will also take you through a ski specific cool down and muscle stretch routine.

3. SKI BIOMECHANICS

At various times throughout the course your coach will run four ski specific biomechanical tests to identify areas in your range of movements that will directly effect your skiing technique.

4. FOUNDATION BUILDING

During the course you’ll be given a set of specific exercises and drills that will give strength and confidence to your core skiing foundation. This will set a base to then develop technique from.

5. VIDEO ANALYSIS

On day two and day four your skiing will be videoed. After skiing your videoed runs are analysed to give you specific feedback to then work on and change for the next day on the mountain.

6. DEVELOPING DYNAMICS

To ensure a positive result when trying out new movement ranges, the team will help you to gain valuable muscle memory using static and dynamic exercises in positions needed for good skiing.

7. DRY LAND TRAINING

A ski specific training program to help develop your skiing technique will be explained to you during the Academy course. This will provide you with a plan to work through after the course and during your time off of the snow.

8. CARVING YOUR TURNS

The course will help you feel the sensation of carving and also move on to dynamic carved turns with a symmetrical power frame ski stance. Lateral leaning and forward loading of the skis is then introduced.

9. SKIING MOGULS

A secure and confident entry into mogul skiing is given using specific pre mogul exercises. Dynamic mogul skiing development is also offered to help when skiing steeper and deeper cut moguls.

10. SKIING STEEPS

Preparation for steep terrain skiing takes place throughout the course. Steep slopes are introduced at a progressive rate. More advanced skiers are tested in steep, narrow couloirs and steeper off piste areas.

11. OFF PISTE + POWDER

A common goal for many course participants is to eventually be able to ski powder and off piste terrain with skill and confidence. Academy courses are famous for achieving this with performance freeride skills.

12. LIKEMINDED SKIERS

The Academy courses are a great way to meet likeminded people who have the same common goal of  improving their skiing. Many people keep in touch after the course and meet on other holidays or courses
