The courses in Cervinia generally start on Sunday and finish Thursday or Friday (weather dependant). Unless you are planning to take a day or two extra at either end of your trip, you should travel out and back Saturday to Saturday. The main hotel we use (The Hotel Mon Reve in Cervinia) offers a special discount for 7 night’s accommodation – again, Saturday to Saturday.
By Air : Turin is 1 hour 40 minutes away, Milan 2 hours 20 minutes and Geneva 2 hours 45 minutes. If you’re driving and renting a car Turin and Milan are more convenient for this. If you don’t wish to rent a car, we recommend flying to Geneva as we put on a shuttle bus which will be available to take you to Cervinia. If you wish to book a seat on this transfer, please book morning flights arriving before midday on your way out and afternoon flights back departing after 2.30pm on you way back. Email us to book the transfer once the course has been booked. By Road Approximatively 10 hours from Calais, either drive through France to Geneva then through the Mont Blanc Tunnel which links Chamonix in France with Courmayeur in Italy. Alternatively, drive through Switzerland to Martigny and through the Grand San Bernado Tunnel into Aosta.
Parking in Cervinia
Underground parking is provided at the Hotel Mon Reve. Parking is free a the lift station during the daytime.
Cervinia, 2050m, is located at the head of a long valley leading off the Aosta Valley, this high-altitude ski area links with Zermatt in Switzerland.
Cervinia is dominated by the mighty Matterhorn and surrounded by some of Europe’s grandest peaks. In summer there is 23km of skiing on the Plateau Rosa Glacier, 3500m. There is a snow park featuring rails/boxes, big air kickers and a half pipe.

What clothes should I take to wear
The summer in Cervinia can be variable. Generally it is sunny and hot, but can change to colder weather with rain, hail or snow. If it rains in resort it will most probably be snowing on the glacier.
Here is an idea of what to pack for in the resort village and up on the glacier. There are also many other activities to do in Cervinia, so you may want to consider taking the appropriate attire for anything you may feel like participating in, in the afternoons after skiing. On the mountain it can be pretty hot when the sun is shining, but it can also be very cold if it clouds over. It is a good idea to pack an extra layer in your bag just in case. It is advisable to have a look at a 5 day weather forecast before you pack to leave.
For the winter courses please wear normal winter wear and pack extra warm clothes as it can get very cold up there!
Equipment to bring
Comfortable equipment can make your days skiing a much more pleasurable experience. The fit and comfort of your ski boots is one of the most important things we advise. Therefore we would not advise hiring them if you already have your own.
Can I hire equipment in the resort?
Yes, the ski shop is open until 7pm. However, if you are on the late transfer, you will miss the shop. You can go there on Sunday morning and hire your equipment. It is advisable to hire your equipment on the Saturday so that you can be up the mountain as early as possible the next morning, if possible.
What should I take up the mountain?
On the summer courses we do not stop at a restaurant for lunch. We start early and finish early, and try and get the best out of the day. There is only one restaurant at the top of the glacier and it takes too much time to get there and get back from it. Therefore as a group we have a picnic style lunch on the mountain each day. You should pack a small lunch and whatever you would like to eat. For the winter courses, we will stop at a restaurant on the mountain for a short lunch break most days, please bring Euros currency for all restaurants (you can also use Swiss Francs but only in the Swiss restaurants).
We recommend you take the following items: Water; you will quickly become dehydrated at altitude, especially if you are active and skiing. It is always best to carry a back pack with a bottle of water and drink frequently to re-hydrate. Sun Factor; at altitude the sun’s rays are extremely powerful even if it doesn’t feel hot. You have to be especially careful when in the snow because it reflects extra ultraviolet radiation onto your skin. It is deceiving when it is cloudy and even snowing, as even then you can get burnt! A high factor is advisable. Try to go for the better products such as Sunsense, Ambre Solaire or Piz Bruin. You need to check that the cream has a UVA and UVB rating. You quickly burn off energy when skiing and until you manage to stop for a sit down break, it is always good to have something at hand to eat. A Small Camera; if you have a small digital camera, stick it in your back pack! You will see the most awesome scenery and it is always nice to record the memory. Mobile Phone; not to call your friends and waste the day chatting! In case you get lost or have an accident, it is a good idea to have it just for emergencies. An extra layer; the weather is ever changeable in the mountains. It is a good idea to have an extra layer in your back pack that you can take off and put on for your own comfort. Spare goggles; not an absolute necessity, but we have found that if you fall and get your goggles wet, it is a good idea to have another set to put on. Goggles tend to steam up if they are wet and can ruin your visibility. A low light lens and a Sun lens are good to have in your back pack too so that you can change them if the light changes. Tissues; sometimes a good idea, especially if you are prone to a runny nose!

What is the local language
The local language is Italian. However, most of the locals and businesses speak English.
Summer weather in the Alps can be variable. For the most part, it is sunny and hot enough to be out in shorts and a t-shirt. However, there are days when it rains heavily (and snows up on the glacier) and can change from being sunny and hot to very chilly in the same day.
Expect normal wintery weather with cold conditions and snow. The top of the mountain is very high and can be cold so dress for cold unless otherwise told!
As most of us will be staying in the same hotel, we will meet at the entrance of the garage under the hotel just before 8am (summer) and 9am (winter). If you aren’t staying at the hotel we will meet just outside the front of the lift station just before 8am (summer) and 9am (winter).
Buying my ski pass
Please be sure to by an international ski pass for the duration of the trip. These can be purchased when you arrive (if early enough) or on the first morning of the course. You will need a 5 Euro deposit for the card and a 6 day pass costs around 192 Euros (summer) or 261 Euros (winter).
People on the courses
All different types of skiers take advantage of the ski courses in Cervinia. There are couples, singles, families, ski instructors, early intermediates, students, doctors, you name it! Ages on the course
Ages vary from teenagers to adults. The average age is 43. The Youngest age is 8 and the oldest age is 82 so far…
Youngest age on the course
The youngest age that is acceptable is 10. However they must be accompanied by an adult, be skiing parallel and be willing to spend their day with adults! If in doubt, please contact us to check if it would be suitable.
Number per group/coach
A maximum of 8 people per coach.
We will be training to improve the general foundation of your skiing technique. Areas covered can be found on the course finder page under “more information” of any week.
In the evenings people on the course may explore the resort and check out some of the many bars or culture. We generally head to dinner in town as a group just before 7pm. There is a friendly bar in the restaurant of the hotel which is perfect at the end of a hard day! There are also video analysis sessions on Monday and Thursday night. We will often have a weekly quiz as a bit of fun for those interested and most Friday’s there is live music at the Hotel Mon Reve.
Ocassionally, if there are high winds, or if it rains on the glacier, it may be closed for a morning or a day. If the lifts are closed, we will take this day as the day off and shift the course back by a day. The Academy also has a dry land training programme which can take place if needed, normally in the garage of the hotel. We find the dry land training programme beneficial to the skiing programme. Even if the weather is good, it is worth asking about the dry land training.
