Day 1 - Konnichiwa!

February 12th, 2009

We have arrived safe and well after a comfortable journey with JAL.  The group of 20 Warren Smith Ski Academy skiers met at Heathrow on Wednesday 11th February ready to board the Japanese Airlines flight to Japan.  Spirits were high and everybody met with excitement with 20 big ski bags at the JAL check in desk.

 Check in at Heathrow

The first leg of the journey was an 11.5 hour flight to Osaka on the South Island of Japan.  As expected, the flight was really comfortable and each one of us had a whole row to stretch out and sleep.  With the comfort and level of service, even economy was as good as business class on other airlines.  However, for some, sleep was overtaken by excitement, and a small party happened on the plane!  One of the Academy coaches, Rob Stanford, was horrified to wake up with a hangover on arrival at Osaka!!  Very amusing to us all!

On the Flight

We had to change for a domestic flight from Oasaka to Saporro in the North Island, but not before all of us got a massage and a shower at the airport!

We finally arrived at the Northern Resort, Annapri in Niseko to a lavish room and a waiting meal.  A good sleep was had by all…
