SUMMER 2009 SKI COURSE DATES RELEASED

In the Glacial Ski Resort of Saas-Fee

Despite the best European winter weather conditions in years, the summer is approaching fast! This winter, conditions on the Saas-Fee glacier are excellent with the frequent snowfalls and a continually building base, over 4.5 metres. Having this volume of snow has set up the glacier area for what is said to be the best summer skiing in 10 years.

People never used to think of the summer as a time to ski, but over the last 10 years that we have been running summer ski courses, we have seen the numbers increase dramatically. Many people are also finding that they can have winter and summer in one, and combine childrens activities and free child care facilities, with ski, spa, sport and relaxation.

In the resort of Saas-Fee during the summer it's T-Shirt and shorts weather, but a dramatic icefall glacier looms over the resort spectacularly dominating the view. The resort is lush green and has many rare wild flowers. The town is ecologically intelligent, and great care is taken to protect the environment in this car free town.

There are an abundance of activities to take part in, in Saas-Fee with golf, tennis, football, basketball, beach volley ball, mountain biking, walking trails, climbing, adventure forest, zip wire, canyoning, Via Ferrate and even hand feeding Marmotte’s! It is a great destination for the sport focussed or families alike.

Only a 2 minute walk from the Academy's chosen central hotel, the Hotel du Glaicier, is the lift access to the glacier where climbers and skiers share the 2 gondolas and then the train that is cut in through the mountain to an altitude of 3550m. It arrives at the foot of the impressive Allalin, where you can sit in the Allalin revolving restaurant and gaze at the spectacular scenery. Here we begin the day's skiing.

The ski conditions are good up on the glacier with the colder temperatures higher up, keeping the upper slopes in winter conditions. Saas-Fee has a summer skiing reputation well above the rest and is home to many national ski teams (including the British Team) for training in July, August and September. . With the mountain currently opening at 7.30am and closing at 2pm, you can easily do a full days skiing.
