Aug 11th – 5 day Freestyle Week
- 5 Day Freestyle Week
- Cervinia, Italy
About the Course
For years our sister company the British Freeski Camps have been coaching and teaching freestyle skiing. We’ve had all freestyle abilities ranging from complete freestyle beginners to aspiring athletes to current world cup leaders come through the camps and courses chasing the desire to improve their freestyle skiing.
The cross over between the two brands and companies is getting stronger and stronger as more and more regular people are wishing to learn and improve their freestyle skiing and more freestyle skiers are wishing to learn and improve their alpine and freeride skiing skills.
This course offers skiers from both worlds the opportunity to improve their freestyle skills in the park and also apply these skills in a big mountain/freeride environment.
Coached by some of the best coaches available with not only international level competitive freestyle backgrounds but also vast freestyle and alpine coaching experience; Andy Bennett and Rob Machon head up the freestyle coaching team and will be able to hone your skills during the week, get you where you want to be and have a load of fun on the way.
The course will run for 5 days from Sun-Fri with Wednesday as a day to rest, practice and recover (in Cervinia we will aim to run the course from Sun-Thursday with Friday as the day off). Each day will run from 10-3 (Cervinia will run from 9-2) with a short break for lunch in the middle. Time will be spent between the park, moguls and freeride terrain with a large percentage being in the park. Video analysis will be used often to help skiers gain an understanding of the movements and movement patterns required of them and analysis will take place most days at a convenient time either during the day, at lunch or after the days skiing has concluded.
The courses are for any skiers wishing to either learn or improve their current freestyle skiing abilities. Ages wise the courses cater for anyone from 14 upward (if younger please get in touch). As a base alpine level you need to be confident skiing parallel. As a base freestyle level you don’t need to have any freestyle experience to join the course, if you’re a freestyle beginner you’d be very welcome and inspired to develop your freestyle skills by the coaches and the rest of the group.
Due to the nature of the course, it is compulsory for skiers to wear a helmet and back protector. We recommend participants either rent or bring their own twin tip freestyle skis to fully benefit from the course. Equipment is available to rent at our partner ski shop “Ski Service” in Verbier or “Sports Centre” in Cervinia. You can contact them in advance to make sure they have equipment available for you to pick up on your arrival. We would advise impact shorts but these are optional.
Coaching will cover slopestyle, pipe and transitions, big air, general skiing technique and strength and conditioning. There will also be daily video analysis, nutrition and ski equipment educational lessons.
Teaching content will cover:
- park etiquette and safety
- intro to air and rails as well as air and rail progressions
- intro to switch skiing and switch skiing progressions
- competition training and simulations, long and short term training and game plans for aspiring athletes
Available Group Levels
Level 3-6 (Advanced Intermediate-Athlete) Freestyle
Due to the nature of the course we only admit skiers at or above level 3 onto the course. The technical alpine skills required to train and develop safely in the park are higher and hence the reason you have to be level 3 (advanced intermediate or a confident parallel skier) before booking onto course. To easily identify the levels of skiers, and roughly assess which level you currently are, please click here.
Lots of the course will hone and develop the skills necessary to ski the park and be confident in the air and on artificial features so don’t feel like you need lots of experience but the willingness to embrace the park environment is a must!
