About Leigh Gorton (Sports Massage Practitioner)

Leigh began his professional sports massage career in 2000 spending two years with New Zealand’s rugby league team the Warriors. He has also been involved in three America’s Cup challenges, initially working for One World in 2003, then Oracle in 2007 and most recently for Emirates Team NZ in 2011.

“I have been very fortunate to work with a wide range of elite athletes, often as a part of a multi-disciplinary team. Whatever their background, the demands of athletes at this level are similar, and as a result I have developed a style that gets results fast which is an advantage for anyone I work with. To get optimal performance from the muscular system you need to ensure the right balance between muscle length and muscle tension exists. Using a range of techniques I can help the body quickly find it’s way back to the ideal alignment.”

Leigh is passionate about health and wellness and studied Holistic Sports Therapy and Remedial Massage for two years at Wellpark College in New Zealand. He has gone on to study Seated Acupressure Massage, Traditional Thai Massage, Reflexology and Yoga. His love of board sports started 30 years ago and he has been skating, bodyboarding or snowboarding ever since. Working in Verbier for two seasons he treated numerous skiers and boarders ranging from keen amateurs to serious professionals like World Champion Freeride Snowboader Ruth Leisibach and Freeskier Warren Smith.

Currently Leigh works in London as a freelance practitioner with clients in their homes, offices, event spaces or when required from a studio in Islington.
