Warren Smith Cycle Slam

If you are a regular visitor to our social media channels, you will have seen that currently, Warren from the team is almost halfway through the 2018 Dallaglio Cycle Slam. This immense challenge sees riders tackle stages that cross the Alps through France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia and eventually finishing up in Croatia.

The stats are mind boggling. 28,000 metres of climbing and a total distance of 1,800km in just 18 days in the saddle! So far the event has seen it all. The guys have had to dig deep through all sorts of conditions. Torrential rain, extreme heat and the freezing cold! But through all of this, the spirits remain incredibly high and the team camaraderie is helping them battle each day at a time.

Warren’s personal challenge is certainly not without its own story. He has undergone knee and shoulder surgery in the last 4 months and was touch and go as to whether he’d undertake the cycle challenge.

So far his progress has been strong. He’s been teamed up with a great bunch of guys including ex England Rugby Union international,Austin Healeyand Iron Man world record holder & 4 timeTriathlon World Champion, Chris McCormackHe’s been inspired to continue to push on as the Dallaglio RugbyWorks Charityhas become incredibly closethe Academy’s hearts.

Helping young people tackle life in a positive way. RugbyWorks, uses rugby to transform the aspirations of young people (14 to 17 year olds) at increased risk of long-term unemployment, criminality and imprisonment. They deliver an intensive, long-term skills development programme based on rugby, through which they aim to get teenagers outside of mainstream education into sustained education, employment or training.

Over the years Warren and the Academy have helped to raise a huge amount for RugbyWorks and we’d like that to continue! To donate to this fabulous charity and to help motivate Warren for the second half of this huge challenge, please visit his just giving page here.

Every little helps and we hugely appreciate your support!
