Jamie Heywood
Jamie has been teaching in and around the Verbier 4 vallees area for 12 years and knows the area like the back of his hand. One of if not the most fluid skiers you will ever see, he makes skiing look effortless. He has extensive teaching experience and knows how to get the best out of his clients whoever they may be. Jamie loves a good cup of tea, although not quite as much as Jordan. He loves to ski bumps but is not as good as Andy, not as Norwegian as Stef and not nearly as enthusiastic as Rob (but who is!). Occasionally, he can be spotted shredding the mountain and the park on his telemark set up, faster and better than most would be able to do on skis!

Rob Machon
Rob has joined us from the GB National Freestyle team and after a successful career competing around the world in Freestyle skiing he’s hung up his twin tips (mostly) to utilise his coaching skills and help others improve their skiing and have fun along the way! He re-trained in Alpine skiing and with his natural flair, ability and understanding of skiing managed to not only excel on all technical levels but also complete his IASI L1 to L4 in the quickest time anyone has ever done including smashing the Eurotest with 1.3 seconds to spare! Besides skiing Rob has a keen passion for photography and cinematography and if you’re lucky enough to get him as a coach you’ll very likely end up with some cool photos and perhaps even a little bit of drone footage if you’re super lucky! Rob definitely has the best hair in the team which defies many laws of physics. No one should be able to have a helmet on for hrs and their hair to look perfect when they take it off – how does he do it?!?

Ruaridh Stevenson
We met Ruaridh when he was just 17 on our first Cervinia summer gap course. Through a series of fortunate events and cancelled courses he ended up starting his journey with the academy and has never looked back. It’s been an emotional journey with many a crash but Ruaridh is now one of the team’s most experienced coaches with superbly rounded teaching abilities and un-paralleled skiing skills. He’s come a long long way from the 17 year old that started with us many years ago and is a great example of how skiing can shape and change someone’s life.

Claire Thomas
Claire embraced her love for the mountain’s and skiing at the age of 2 and hasn’t looked back since! The skiing, alpine beauty and the snow are what have always drawn her toward a life and career in ski teaching. Having had a successful career in property in London, Claire decided to give it up to pursue her childhood dream and passion of a life and career in the mountains. Qualifying and working as a ski instructor has allowed her to do what she loves, work where she is happiest and meet some truly interesting and inspiring individuals. Outside of skiing Claire is a very motivated Personal Trainer. During the summer months she can often be seen around Verbier out running and out biking most of the team! For the past 6 years Claire has been based in Verbier and we’re very proud to have her on the Academy team.

Gareth joined the team 5 years ago after having been our first ever gap year student to complete 2 gap courses! He loved it so much that he just needed to do another (and had to miss the exam on the first due to injury :(). Since then he’s excelled in both his personal skiing and teaching. He is a qualified school teacher and brings this wealth of teaching skills into his ski teaching meaning anyone he teaches get’s a great experience and not only will they improve they’ll also appreciate how skilful a teacher someone can be. When not skiing Gareth can often be found in the bars playing keyboard and piano for one of the various bands he is part of. If you get a chance to hear him play after skiing you’ll be sure to have a good time and be amazed at his musical talents

Skiing has always been a big passion of Lewis’. He started at the age of three and has never looked back. He has taught all across the world, in Canada, Japan, Australia and of course Switzerland. He also has qualified in both the Canadian system and achieved the BASI level 4. He has a degree in Sports Science and Biomechanics, which means his understanding of how the body moves on skis isn’t too bad. On his days off he can often be found playing in the bumps and enjoying a burger on the mountain!

Meet Meg!  Originating from the North East of Scotland, she started her Snowsports career after completing her Nursing degree. She has maintained her British nursing registration alongside developing a snowsport career. Hopefully she won’t need to use her nursing skills when out coaching but it’s not a bad skillset to have in the bag just in case! Meg did her first ski season in Japan where she found her love for powder snow, teaching skiing and circus performing. From there she never looked back, has continued progressing through her ski instructor qualifications, gaining valuable teaching experience and developing herself as a skier along the way too! Meg is hugely passionate about skiing and loves teaching people so they can enjoy the mountain and the sport as much as she does. On a personal level, she likes to be pushed outside her comfort zone and is always up for a challenge – a mindset she tries to encourage and in-still in those she teaches. Whilst at university, Meg was part of the Army Officer Training Corps, competed at the army reserve ski championships and has army qualifications in ski mountaineering and avalanche safety. Outside of skiing, Meg enjoys climbing, surfing and mountain biking.

Anthony Whitfield
Anthony arrived in Verbier in 2013 after finishing his Geography degree at Newcastle University. Having always been a keen sportsman, fitness fanatic and show off it didn’t take long for Anthony to become totally obsessed with all things skiing. After his passion for skiing was sparked Anthony decided he wanted to help people improve their skiing, become a coach and put his knowledge, passion and energy to good use here in Verbier. Diving headfirst into the instructor pathway he quickly achieved the BASI Level 4 qualification. Anthony particularly loves the extreme side of skiing! Ripping all conditions, skiing fast and going big are his tenants, and he’ll help you to get there. His style is aggressive and powerful, a style that usually proves quite entertaining for clients who witness him crash. Some interesting facts about Ant! He’s a direct descendant of Buffalo Bill. He once ate 43 hard boiled eggs. He once held the joint world record for number of Jaffa cakes you can eat in a minute – 17 if anyone’s wondering. If you can Bench, Squat and Deadlift more than Ant you can get a free Academy course (says Ant – no official statement here)

The Academy Ethos

At the core of everything we do are the 5 P’s – performance, passion, professionalism, partnership and of course play. We think these 5 elements are essential to enjoying skiing and the mountains and growing as a skier.

To take things further we layer our ski DNA into everything we coach to get the most out of our team and our client’s. The combination of technique, biomechanics and equipment knowledge has been proven to guarantee success.

When combined well the culmination and experience you the client will receive is the highest level of coaching.
